在汉译英过程中，有意识地充分发挥英语介词的作用对于提高英译文质量大有裨益。在许多情况下，汉语的动词结构不妨转化为英语的介词结构。请看下面例子句分析及译文：

法律面前人人平等。
分析
使用英语介词短语时，必须了解其真正的含义和用法中创网，不能仅仅看字面去想当然。本句中的“面前”决不能译为 in the face of。实际上，“法律面前”确切的含义为“从法律观点看”，相应的介词短语是 in the sight of。注意：介词短语 at the sight of 和 in the sight of 形式相近，用法相反。前者后接的名词是 see 的承受者汉译英在线翻译句子，而后者后接的名词是 see 的施与者。
译文
All people are equal in the sight of the law.

分析
“寻求”可以表达为不定式 to search for（译文 1）或者介词短语 in search of（译文 2）。

分析
“火警”在此可以理解成“如果发生火灾”。我们用 if 或 in case 引导从句（译文 1、2），或采用介词短语 in case of，后接名词（译文 3）。另外，“火警”还可理解成“报告火灾”（译文 4）。

（2）Dial 119 in case a fire breaks out.
（3）Dial 119 in case of fire.

这台计算机内部装有电池以防停电。
分析
“以防”不是“防止”的意思，不能译为 prevent，而是“以防万一”之意，可根据上下文译为be prepared for, in case 等。本句中，我们可以把“停电”译为从句，前面用 in case 引导（译文 1）；或者译为名词词组汉译英在线翻译句子，前面用 in case of 引导（译文 2）。再举个类似的例子：“你最好带把伞，以防下雨”可译为 You’d better take an umbrella with you in case it rains 或 You’d better take an umbrella with you in case of rain。
译文
