主语是复数名词时,述语动词一般用复数形式。
And my classmates are waiting for me.
我的同学们在等我。
The children are very smart.
这些孩子很聪明。

family, class, committee, audience等集合名词作主语,如表示整体,述语动词用单数形式;如表示其中的一个个成员,述语动词用复数形式。
But the class are having a discussion.
但班上的同学正在讨论。
My family is a large one.
我的家庭是大家庭。
My family指家庭整体。
The class are having sports.
这班的同学在运动。
The class指班中的一个个成员。

表示全体的名词或代名词如people, police, the+姓氏+s, the+民族名称, the+形容词等时,述语动词一般要用复数形式。
The police want us to stop.
警察让我们停下。
The police are searching the hotel for the murderer.
警察正在旅馆搜查凶手。
The poor need support.
穷人需要帮助。
The Browns are all college graduates.
布朗一家人都是大学毕业生。

a+group, crowd, flock, file, herd等集合名词+of+名词的复数形式如表示组成部份,述语动词用复数形式。
A group of people are running after us.
一群人正跟在我们后面跑。
A herd of horses is what the herdsman wants to have.
这个牧人想拥有的是一群马。
此句中的a herd of horses表示整体。
A herd of horses are running in all directions.
一群马向四面八方跑去。
此句中的a herd of horses表示组成部份。

主语是两个或多个不可数名词,且表示不同的概念时,述语动词要用复数形式。
Money and time are what I need.
我所需要的是钱和时间。
Water and air are easy to be polluted.
水和空气容易被污染。

当主语是由两个形容词修饰的单数名词,表示两个事物时,述语动词用复数。
The blue and red jackets are both beautiful.
蓝色夹克和红色夹克都很漂亮。
The red and the yellow rose are both beautiful.
红玫瑰和黄玫瑰两种都很美。
